My journey
Edward Busuttil DVM CertAVP(EM) PgCertVPS MRCVS
Born in Liverpool and raised in Malta, I grew up surrounded by animals both at home and on my grandfather’s farm. After graduating from Szent István University in Budapest in 2015 as part of the English programme, I worked in equine referral and first-opinion practices across California, Shropshire, Rutland, and Sussex, treating leisure horses to international sport horses.
Working in both ambulatory and hospital-based practice, I developed a strong interest in lameness and poor performance cases. Early in my career, I recognised that identifying and treating a single lesion did not always resolve the underlying issue. This led me towards a more holistic, multidisciplinary approach, working closely with the professionals involved in each horse’s care and incorporating complementary therapies to improve recovery, reduce recurrence, and optimise performance.
Since graduating, I have continued to expand my knowledge through further qualifications, including:
-
Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (Internal Medicine) – University of Liverpool
-
Certificate in Veterinary Acupuncture – Chi Institute
-
Professional Diploma in Animal Chiropractic – Options for Animals
-
Certification in Equine Rehabilitation
-
Level 5 Diploma in Equine Nutrition
I strongly believe that collaboration between owners and the wider care team — including veterinarians, physiotherapists, saddlers, and farriers — is key to achieving the best possible outcomes for every horse.
